Internal Power Development
Internal Power Development, or often called Internals for short at our dojo, is a class dedicated to the building of a stable body structure necessary to generate power to which can be applied to strikes, joint-locking techniques, or throws regardless of the martial style. Internal power cannot be quickly or easily developed through the practice of fighting techniques alone, so this class was created to further develop internals through the practice of a series of specific exercises with the goal to develop, coordinate, and strengthen the tendon/facial chains in the body. The strengthening of the body’s connective tissue creates stability that progresses to the development of an immovable body that enables a person to absorb and redirect any incoming force as well as to generate power transmitted by rapid speed, non-telegraphed actions. This developed body brings life and power to martial art techniques.
The Internal Power Development class does not provide instruction in martial art techniques. Instead, the class focuses on a select series of solo exercises (with and without training instruments), partner-pushing exercises, and walking drills designed to create stability and power in the body. These exercises practiced in class can be clearly explained through simple instruction based on physics and human anatomy. The results produced are clearly visible and measureable compared to meditative practices focusing on the pursuit of enlightenment while contributing little or any value to the physical form. The training we provide is not specific to any one martial art, nor is it limited to use in fighting, but has been found by many to be applicable to many other physical and sports activities.
Our internal power development classes are open to all participants and do not require any martial arts training or affiliation. We also offer specific aikido classes focused on manifesting internal power in the application of aikido techniques. While esoteric training and practice in internal power development have been around for hundreds of years, the teaching methodology and training material presented in class is from seminar material presented by Dan Harden. Dan is bringing ancient body technology from the Asian martial arts into the modern age to develop stability, power and increased performance relevant to anyone in pursuit of more efficient movement. Several times a year our dojo hosts Dan Harden for intensive weekend seminars open to both beginners and advanced practitioners of his methods. Check our “Seminar” page frequently as these seminars are sometimes scheduled on short notice.
Monthly membership fee is $95.00 per month (check/cash) or $90.00 per month (auto pay) for unlimited aikido classes. $10.00 mat fee (this fee is for members from another aikido dojo only). For days and times of classes offered, click the “Schedule/Info” tab.
